Since the outbreak of war in Croatia in 1991, 1,848 people have been involved in landmine incidents.   In 2002, 23 landmine and UXO incidents were recorded, leading to 29 new landmine casualties.  Surveys of mine casualties are being conducted to be used as a tool in setting priorities for survivor assistance programs.  While the health care system in Croatia is state run and thus, nearly all survivors have access to some care, the current level of rehabilitation is far from sufficient.  Physical rehabilitation is often incomplete and employment opportunities for survivors are scarce.
