On April 4, more than 300 people came to United Nations headquarters to celebrate the second annual Night of a Thousand Dinners® New Yorkgala sponsored by UNA-USA’s Adopt-A-Minefield® Campaign. The event honored Ted Turner and the Better World Fund, outgoing Adopt-A-Minefield Chair and former Ambassador Nancy Rubin, and Culinary Humanitarian Daniel Boulud. Guests enjoyed a five-course dinner and wine tasting prepared by five top New York chefs: Alexandra Guarnaschelli of Butter, Michael Laiskonis of Le Bernardin, Galen Zamarra of Mas, Gabriel Kreuther of The Modern and Michael Lomonaco of Porter House.

UNA-USA Vice Chair John C. Whitehead presented the Global Humanitarian Award to Turner and the Better World Fund; Turner donated $1 billion to United Nations causes in 1997 and his Better World Fund has been a prominent supporter of Adopt-A-Minefield over the years. TV Journalist Charlie Rose presented the Messenger of Peace Award to Ambassador Rubin; Rubin is the outgoing chair of Adopt-A-Minefield. NBC’s Al Roker presented the Culinary Humanitarian Award to Daniel Boulud for his work with New York City’s Meals on Wheels program. The celebrity-driven event, which raised more than $150,000, culminated a month’s worth of events held around the world to raise awareness about and funds to help the global landmine crisis.
