AAM FlowerAAM: Who We Are

In response to the global landmine crisis, the Adopt-A-Minefield (AAM) Campaign was created by the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) in partnership with the United Nations, Ted Turner’s Better World Fund, and the U.S. State Department to clear minefields, provide assistance to landmine survivors, and raise awareness of the global landmine crisis. The Campaign aims to empower people everywhere to take action against the global landmine crisis–one of the world’s most pervasive problems.

Since its launch in 1999, AAM has quickly become one of the world’s leading mine clearance programs. It is the only nongovernmental funder in the top donor list in six of the most heavily mined countries in the world, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Croatia, Mozambique, and Vietnam.

In September of 2002, AAM launched a Survivor Assistance component. Working with partner organizations, AAM seeks to help survivors get the medical attention they need and facilitate their reintegration into society through a variety of services such as job training, scholarships, small business loans, and other programs. AAM currently supports Survivor Assistance programs in Afghanistan, Angola, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Laos, Mozambique and Vietnam.
